Betty J. Braxter completed her undergraduate education at the Louisiana State University Medical Center and her doctoral training with focus on nursing at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing. Her research and clinical interests during post-graduate studies at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from which she earned a Certificate in Nurse Midwifery, and Texas Woman's Univesity targeted the care of women of childbearing age. Upon completion of her doctorate, she completed postdoctoral training with a focus on risky behaviors. Currently she coordinates an undergraduate mothers, newborns and families course at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing. Research has primarily focused on the following areas: tobacco use among women, and health disparities.
