Biography

Dr. Gina A. Garcia is an assistant professor in the Department of Administrative and Policy Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, where she teaches masters and doctoral students pursuing degrees in higher education and student affairs.  Her research centers on issues of equity and diversity in higher education with an emphasis on the organizational culture and identity of Hispanic Serving Institutions and the retention, success, and identity development of Latina/o college students.  Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Garcia worked in higher education for over 10 years as a research analyst at the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI), retention coordinator for Students of Color in STEM majors, resident director, and coordinator for large-scale campus programs.  Dr. Garcia graduated from California State University, Northridge with a BS in marketing, University of Maryland, College Park with a MA in counseling and college student personnel, and University of California, Los Angeles with a PhD in higher education and organizational change.
