Biography

I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing's Health and Community Systems Department and an advisor for the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization.  At the University, I serve as the lead faculty for several public and community health courses for nursing and allied health professionals.  As a PAHO advisor, my current work revolves around building capacity in the Nicaraguan health workforce through education, training, and research.

I deeply believe all people deserve the opportunity to be healthy and support partnering with individuals, communities, and institutions to improve health and lives.  I am particularly interested in advancing health equity in Latin America and have worked professionally in the U.S., Nicaragua, Bolivia, Honduras, and Columbia applying expertise in community/public health, health system capacity building, and vulnerable and underserved populations.  My recent research has focused on building and evaluating novel, student-led health promotion community centers, and evaluating the needs of rural health workers in Latin America.  Additionally, I facilitate U.S.-Nicaraguan collaboration between educators, researchers, and practitioners.
